Former East Carolina University golfer Jackson Spires carries a five-shot lead into the final round of the 65th NC Amateur.
Spires played for ECU from the 2013-14 season to the 2017-18 season before becoming a volunteer assistant coach. He led after the first round of play, which began on Wednesday at The Cardinal by Pete Dye in Greensboro.
Spires was tied after the second round with two other golfers but shot a 66 on Friday to build his advantage. He had five birdies and a bogey, including birdies at No. 3, 6 and 7.
He’ll tee off at 10:45 a.m. as part of the final group of play.
