Emma Jackson hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning as East Carolina took down Michigan, 2-1, on Wednesday night at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.

Anna Sawyer and Kanisha Anderson provided the only other hits for the Pirates (12-7) in a game that was a defensive battle throughout most of the night.

The Wolverines had a runner in scoring position in the first and second innings but the Pirates were able to get out of both innings unscathed.

ECU finally got its first hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth on a Sawyer single but the next two batters struck out swinging to keep the game at 0-0.

Michigan’s Lauren Putz hit a double to open the sixth inning and Ellie Sieler drove in Putz on an RBI single to get Michigan on the board first.

After the first two batters for ECU got out, Anderson hit a single and Jackson followed up by blasting the ball over the left field wall to put ECU ahead 2-1.

Michigan drew a walk but the Wolverines were unable to get a runner in scoring position to extend the game.

Kendall Frost (5-5) picked up the win while Taylor Apple earned her second save of the season and tossed four strikeouts.
