ATLANTA, Ga. – East Carolina senior running back Marlon Gunn Jr. is one of 116 nominees to the 2025 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List the organization announced today. The annual award recognizes college football players from across the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) who exemplify community service, academic excellence and athletic achievement.
On July 15th, Gunn was East Carolina’s nominee for the 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, which recognizes student-athletes for their commitment to community service and leadership beyond the gridiron. A year ago, defensive lineman Elijah Morris was a semifinalist for both awards.
Gunn has appeared in 34 career games earning three varsity letters since stepping on campus in the fall of 2021. He has tallied 633 yards rushing on 152 attempts (4.2 ypr) with three touchdowns, all coming last year. Out of the backfield, the Baton Rouge, La. Native has caught 21 passes for an additional 145 yards (6.9 ypc) and in all, has registered 910 all-purpose yards. Gunn has been a member of two bowl championship teams (2022 TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl, 2024 Go Bowling Military Bowl) and is a two-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll recipient.
Off the field, Gunn has been a team leader in the community logging over 100 service hours. He has helped with organizations from Ignite Church (volunteering two hours every other week with children), Boneyard Turkey Drive (helping distribute turkeys to the Greenville community), Pack For Troops (2024 Military Bowl event packing supplies for military troops), Beast Philanthropy (leveraging the power of social media to help raise funds for charitable causes around the world), Field Day at John Cotton Taylor Elementary School (serving as a youth mentor to children during yearly field day events), Hurricane Helene Relief (helping package supplies for victims of Hurricane Helene that hit the western part of North Carolina in the fall of 2024) among others.
