IRVING, Texas – East Carolina women’s basketball’s Amiya Joyner has been named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for her magnificent effort against Howard last week, the league announced Monday.

The junior out of Farmville was electric in the game, scoring a career high 32 points on 13-21 from the field to go with 15 rebounds and two blocks. The game was the first 30-plus point, 15-plus rebound effort for the Pirates since Feb. 13, 2004 when Courtney Willis went for 40 and 21 in a 4OT contest against TCU. It was the first such game in regulation since Jennifer Jackson went for 31 and 17 on Feb. 2, 2003.

In the American last season there were only two 30/15 games, done by Elyssa Coleman of UTSA and Tiara Young of SMU. The 32 points also pushed Joyner over 800 points in her ECU career, doing so in just 67 games played.

2023 American Freshman of the Year and 2024-25 Preseason All-Conference Second Team, the weekly nod is the 10th of Joyner’s career, having earned Player of the Week recognition once last season and a record eight Freshman of the Week honors a in 2022-23.

Joyner and the Pirates will be back in action on Wednesday and Friday this week as they take on Montana State and UNLV at the UNLV Thanksgiving Classic in Las Vegas, Nev.
