TAMPA, Fla. – Annie Kate Dalton hit the go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the seventh and Kendall Frost retired 13 straight batters as East Carolina rallied to defeat South Florida, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at USF Softball Stadium.

The win marked the first victory at South Florida for the Pirates since May 2, 2021.

South Florida jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a solo home run but the Pirates tied the game in the top of the third after Emma Jackson hit a single and advanced on an error from South Florida, allowing Mary-Kathryn Scott to score from third.

Both teams’ defenses and pitching locked down over the next three innings as neither team could get a runner further than second base.

Trinity Nichols drew a walk in the top of the seventh and Jackson was intentionally walked, setting up Dalton’s massive swing to put the Pirates in front for good.

Frost (7-6) quickly slammed the door on the Bulls’ hope for a comeback, retiring their final three batters and setting up the rubber match for Sunday. The freshman tossed five strikeouts in the complete game win.
