Spring Training starts for Major League Baseball teams all over Florida and Arizona this weekend. While the Miami Marlins have a lot of questions for first-year manager and ECU alum Clayton McCullough, one spot seems pretty secure.
The Miami Herald took a look at each position ahead of spring training in a recently published report. They have fellow ECU alum Connor Norby locked into third base. After years of playing second, he was moved to third late last season as a fix for a position the team has problems with. While he struggled at times, he showed flashes of brilliance that it as apparent the hot corner would be Norby’s future.
“Connor Norby is an everyday player,” then-manager Skip Schumaker said late last season. “He’s going to be better next year at third base. He’s going to be a top-of-the-order, middle-of-the-order bat, and I think he’s going to do damage. There’s not too many guys that can juice the ball to the opposite field like he can at the major-league level. There’s no reason he can’t be a 20-, 30-home run guy in this league for a number of years.”
