Not many Major League Baseball teams are in the place the San Francisco Giants are currently.
The Giants are chasing the Los Angeles Dodgers for first in the National League West. They are also in contention for a NL Wild Card spot, meaning the postseason hopes are looking good for the first time since 2021.
Maria Guardado of MLB.com wrote about the many reasons why the team is doing the right things to become a playoff team. One other reason she lists is the future of ECU baseball alum Carson Whisenhunt.
Whisenhunt is poised to be called up from Triple-A Sacramento at some point in the season. The Giants need more pitching and he can provide it. The team traded left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison and right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks, making Whisenhunt the next in line to see MLB action.
It’s not likely Whisenhunt will be traded, meaning he could finally get called up before the postseason.
Guardado wrote in part, “The Giants could still get their first look at Whisenhunt, who appears well-positioned to plug any holes that may arise in the starting rotation in the second half.
