Arlington Renegades roster features ECU alumni Holton Ahlers and Isaiah Winstead

by | Mar 5, 2025

The UFL’s Arlington Renegades has two ECU alumni who are familiar with each other.

In addition to former ECU quarterback Holton Ahlers — host of Pirate Radio’s “The Holton Ahlers Show” on its YouTube page — Isaiah Winstead is also competing for a spot on the team. Ahlers played for the Renegades last season and is a good lock to make the club as a back-up quarterback. Winstead is also trying to catch on to the club again as one of its wide receivers.

Winstead played at Norfolk State, Toledo and then ECU. He appeared in 54 career games for the three schools, making 36 starts. He caught 234 passes for 3,011 yards and 18 touchdowns. He made his biggest impact during his 2022 ECU season, getting 88 catches for 1,085 yards and six touchdowns.

Winstead has had stops with the San Francisco 49ers (2023) and New York Jets (2024). He had 12 catches for 175 yards and two touchdowns for the Renegades last season.

PFNewsroom did a roster preview of the Renegades where it focused on both Ahlers and Winstead.

About Ahlers, “While we likely won’t see much of Ahlers (25 years old) or Lehnen (23 years old) this season, they are both young players who can develop behind Perez and replace him as the face of the Renegades when he eventually retires.”

About Winstead, “While the young receiver has potential, it will be hard for him to make a production jump with all three of Arlington’s starting receivers returning. However, Winstead is still a reliable threat off the bench.”

Also worth noting is ECU alum and offensive lineman Garrett McGhin. He did not play last season due to an injury. He won an XFL title in 2023 with the team.

“Garrett McGhin, who was a starter with Arlington during their 2023 XFL championship run, returns to the team after missing the entirety of 2024 with injury. He was also an All-USFL tackle with the New Jersey Generals in 2022.”
