Could Trey Yesavage be fix Blue Jays’ bullpen needs for postseason?

by | Sep 13, 2025

ECU baseball alum Trey Yesavage has come a long way this baseball season.

He started the season at Low-A Dunedin and is currently with Triple-A Buffalo. He’s one step away from being called up to pitch for the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Jays have struggled in the bullpen lately. Fellow ECU alum Jeff Hoffman and others have gone from stone-cold locks to all sorts of trouble starting in August. The bullpen was top 10 in ERA, WHIP and strikeouts minus walk rate. In August, the walk rate was among the worst in the majors.

While Yesavage wasn’t a part of the Sept. 1 callup, BlueJaysNation.com believes he could still factor in Toronto’s postseason.

It’s easy to see why he remains on the Blue Jays’ radar as a potential contributor, while his development at triple-A is still prioritized, as Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson Smith reported after Yesavage was briefly moved to the bullpen at the start of September.

“It is also intriguing that even when Yesavage has started games recently, the outings have been shorter, more comparable to the type of usage seen by a reliever. It’s easier for a pitcher to max out their stuff when throwing in shorter bursts. “
