Another former ECU baseball star is now on his team’s injured list.
On Sunday, the San Francisco Giants put pitcher Carson Whisenhunt on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to last Thursday, due to a strained back. The team reported Whisenhunt woke up with tightness in his back and has not improved. He can throw on the ground with no issues but his back flares up when he tries to pitch, Giants manager Bob Melvin said.
Whisenhunt, 24, last pitched against the Cubs on Wednesday. He earned the 12-3 victory by giving up three runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts over five innings. For the season, he’s 2-1 with a 5.01 ERA, 12 walks and 16 strikeouts over 23.1 innings in five starts.
St. Louis’ Alec Burleson is on the injured list and Miami’s Connor Norby just came off his team’s injured list.
