by | Aug 2, 2025

Dixon Williams’ pro baseball career started on Friday.

The former ECU baseball star was assigned to the Augusta GreenJackets by the Atlanta Braves, the team that drafted him. He played Friday night against the Carolina Mudcats, started at second base and batted fifth in the lineup.

Williams was 0-for-4 but scored two runs in a 12-4 win. He reached on a force out in the second inning and later scored to cut Carolina’s lead to 2-1. He was hit by a pitch in the sixth and scored to give Augusta a 4-2 lead.

Trey Yesavage

Another start and another solid outing for Trey Yesavage.

He started and went the first four innings for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in another Double-A start. He gave up a run on four hits with nine strikeouts but did not factor in the decision.

The Fisher Cats went on to win it, 9-2.

Yesavage struck out all three batters in the second and third innings, struck out two in the fourth and one in the first. He lowered his ERA to 4.68.

Gavin Williams

Another start, another lost opportunity.

Gavin Williams had another solid start on the mound on Friday for the Cleveland Guardians. He pitched six innings against the Minnesota Twins, giving up no runs on four hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. He left with a 2-0 lead.

Then, as has been the case in some of his previous games, the Guardians blew the lead and Williams got a no-decision. The Twins scored twice in the seventh against the Guardians’ bullpen and tied it at 2-2.

Cleveland won it with a run in the bottom of the 10th, 3-2.

Williams was at least able to lower his ERA to 3.33. He finished July 1-1 with a 3.03 ERA in 29.2 innings, giving up 10 runs on 21 hits with 15 walks and 29 strikeouts.
