Pirates in baseball: Connor Norby gets 100th career hit, Danny Beal sparkles in win

East Carolina baseball alum Connor Norby reached a milestone on Tuesday as the Miami Marlins won again, beating the Cincinnati Reds for the second straight day.

Norby reached 100 career hits in a 12-2 win. The Marlins, coached by fellow ECU baseball alum Clayton McCullough, are now 42-48, 12-3 over the past 15 games.

Norby went 1-for-4 with the hit, two runs and an RBI. He hit a sacrifice fly that drove in a run in the fourth, giving Miami a 7-1 lead. His single came in the sixth, later scoring to make it 9-1.

He also reached on an error and later scored to make it 10-1.

He got the win after coming on in relief and pitching one of his best games of the season Tuesday.

The Down East Bird Dawgs picked up a 5-0 win over Sussex County. Beal came on in the second inning after starter Caden O’Brien was pulled after walking three in the first inning. Beal pitched seven innings, his longest outing of the season, gave up one hit, walked one and struck out six.

His ERA dropped to 5.96, and he improved to 2-3 with the win.

  • Zach Agnos, Colorado Rockies: Pitched last 1.2 innings in 10-2 loss to Red Sox. Gave up a solo home run and struck out two. ERA is now 5.19.

Triple-A

  • Carson Whisenhunt, Sacramento RiverCats (Giants): Did not pitch in 2-0 loss to Salt Lake.

Double-A

  • Trey Yesavage, New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays): Did not pitch in 5-1 loss to Somerset.
  • Carter Spivey, Akron Rubber Ducks (Guardians): Placed on 7-day injured list with right shoulder strain on June 12.
  • Trey Benton, Akron Rubber Ducks (Guardians): On season-ending disabled list

Single-A

  • Carter Cunningham, Vancouver Canadians (Blue Jays): 1-for-3 with a walk in 7-1 loss to Hillsboro

  • Josh Moylan, Hudson Valley Renegades (Yankees): 2-for-4 with run and three RBI in 7-6 win over Asheville. He hit a three-run homer in the eighth, his fourth of the season, to complete the rally.
