Pirates in baseball: Gavin Williams has fourth straight no-decision in Guardians’ win

East Carolina baseball alum Gavin Williams ended up with his fourth straight no-decision in June in Wednesday’s 5-4 win in 10 innings by the Cleveland Guardians over the Toronto Blue Jays.

He started well despite giving up a run in the fourth inning on a homer by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. He ran into some trouble in the sixth and left after giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits in 5.1 innings. He also walked three and struck out two.

Cleveland tied it in the sixth and won it with a run in the 10th.

Williams is 1-0 in June with a 2.57 ERA in five starts over 28 innings. He has given up 19 hits, eight earned runs, walked 13 and struck out 20.

Fellow ECU alum Jeff Hoffman pitched the ninth inning, giving up a hit and striking one to lower his ERA to 5.13.
