Could East Carolina join the Sun Belt Conference? That’s the buzz, according to one website.
David Schultz, who reports on the conference for Sun Belt Syndicate, posted the idea on his X page. He reported, “A source tells me the @SunBelt has reached out to @ECUAthletics to gage their interest in joining the conference.”
The idea may seem far-fetched and a curious move because of the standing of the AAC in the second tier of athletic conferences. It would certainly make ECU a bigger fish in a small pond, so to speak.

Wednesday afternoon, Schultz reported that ECU “has replied and, for now, they are going to take a wait-and-see approach.” Schultz said that if Memphis were to leave the AAC for greener pastures, it could lead to a massive change to the AAC. That would then peak interest in ECU possibly looking toward the Sun Belt.
Schultz also said Louisiana Tech is interested in the Sun Belt, but it’s unclear whether the league feels the same way toward the school.
