TAMPA, Fla. – South Florida defeated East Carolina 10-0 in seven innings Friday night to even the teams’ American Athletic Conference series at the USF Baseball Stadium.

The Pirates (29-24, 13-13 AAC) and Bulls (28-23, 15-11 AAC) wrap up the regular season Saturday at 2 p.m. before finding out their paths through the AAC Baseball Championship tournament which begins May 20 in nearby Clearwater, Fla.

Carter Murphy led the South Florida lineup with three hits while Ryan Pruitt and Marcus Brodil drove in three runs apiece. Jack Herring and Roger Vergara registered ECU’s pair of hits in the contest.

Corey Braun (8-2) earned the win with 2.2 scoreless frames, finishing with a walk and two strikeouts. Jake Hunter (2-3) was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs on three hits with two walks and a strikeout in one inning of work.

USF took early control with a three-run bottom of the first before Marcus Brodil made it 4-0 in the fourth with a leadoff home run. The Bulls added two more in the frame to grab a six-run advantage.

The Pirates put up their best offensive chance in the top of the sixth as Herring roped a leadoff double to left center and Austin Irby was hit by a pitch, but East Carolina was unable to push anything across. South Florida ended the game by scoring two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
