East Carolina ended its regular season on a strong note as the Pirates recorded a series sweep of North Texas with two wins in Saturday’s doubleheader at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.

Prior to first pitch on Saturday, the Pirates recognized their seven seniors inĀ Kylee Schojan,Ā Jordan Hatch,Ā Annie Kate Dalton,Ā Logan Sutton,Ā Morgan Johnson,Ā Makenzie MasonĀ andĀ Joie Fittante.

ECU (29-25, 14-13 AAC) took the series with a 6-0 shutout in the first game of the doubleheader and the Pirates outlasted North Texas in a frenetic series finale, 8-7, to record the series sweep. The Pirates finished the season with a winning record in AAC play, which is a first for the program since joining the league. ECU also had its first winning conference season since 2014.

Game One: East Carolina 6, North Texas 0
Morgan JohnsonĀ went 2-for-4 at the plate including driving a two-run homer to left field as the Pirates clinched the series with a 6-0 win over North Texas.

The Pirates jumped out to an early 3-0 lead asĀ Emma JacksonĀ hit an RBI single and Johnson followed suit with her two-run shot in the bottom of the third.

ECU extended their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth with a double steal asĀ Joie FittanteĀ stole home andĀ Mary-Kathryn ScottĀ gave the Pirates a five-run lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double.

Logan SuttonĀ hit an RBI double of her own in the bottom of the sixth for some insurance andĀ Taylor AppleĀ kept North Texas’ offense quiet, tossing nine strikeouts in six innings for the win.

Game Two: East Carolina 8, North Texas 7
Morgan JohnsonĀ continued her impressive day with two hits, two runs and three RBI as East Carolina overcame six errors to sweep North Texas with an 8-7 win in the second game of the doubleheader and series finale.

The win marked ECU’s biggest comeback victory of the season.

North Texas plated four early runs due to some sloppy play defensively from the Pirates but ECU rallied in the bottom of the third as five runs crossed home plate.

The Mean Green tied the game up in the top of the fourth but East Carolina would retake the lead asĀ Kanisha AndersonĀ scored on a North Texas error and Johnson hit her second, two-run homer of the day to give ECU an 8-5 edge heading into the fifth inning.

North Texas hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth and pulled within a run on a sac fly in the sixth inning but the Pirates were able to get outs when they needed them to prevent any comeback from the Mean Green down the stretch.

Jordan HatchĀ (2-2) picked up the win in her last home game with four strikeouts tossed in 5.1 innings of work whileĀ Kendall FrostĀ earned her fifth save of the year.
