A bad day at the golf course cost Harold Varner III and the tournament leader on Sunday.
Varner shot a +4 on Sunday to finish the LIV Golf Mexico City event at 3-under-par and in a tie for 17th place overall. Three others finished tied with Varner, who collected $255,000 with his finish, according to Golfweek.com.
Varner started off strong with birdies on the first two holes. However, he bogeyed No. 5, 6, 8, 13 and 18. He did birdie No. 16. Varner’s team, 4Aces GC finished fourth at -20, eight shots back of Legion XIII.
Bryson DeChambeau, wo led the first two rounds, shot even par and finished tied for second. Joaquin Niemann fired a 6-under-par to finish at -16 and win the tournament. He held off Lucas Herbert, who hit a blistering -10-under-par to finish at -3.
