Harold Varner III is off to a good start at the LIV Golf Mexico City event.
The ECU alum is tied with eight other golfers at 3-under-par on Friday after the first round at Club de Golf Chapultepec.
Bryson DeChambeau leads the field after firing an 8-under-par. He leads by one shot over Cameron Smith and John Rahm.
Varner was 3-under through the first 10 holes, sinking birdies at No. 1, 5 and 10. He did have bogeys on No. 12 and No. 15 but evened that out with birdies on No. 13 and No. 16 for a round of 68.
His 4Aces GC team, which includes Dustin Johnson, Thomas Pieters and Patrick Reed, are in fourth place at -6, nine shots behind Team Ripper GC, which features DeChambeau.
Play continues Saturday and Sunday.
