The East Carolina softball team fell in its weekend series finale against Florida Atlantic, 8-2, on Sunday afternoon at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
Morgan Johnson led the Pirates (25-22, 10-11 AAC) with two hits including a home run but it was another tough game at the plate as ECU only recorded four hits on the day.
In similar fashion to Friday’s game, Florida Atlantic got on base early and plated two runs in the top of the first. The Owls added two more runs to take a 4-0 lead before Logan Sutton’sRBI double in the bottom of the second got the Pirates on the board after Johnson’s triple.
Florida Atlantic had another two-run inning in the top of third to extend the lead to 6-1 and the Owls added another run in the top of the fifth to take their largest lead of the game and the series at 8-1.
Johnson’s homer in the bottom of the seventh got the Pirates one more run but the Owls struck out two of the next three ECU batters to record the series sweep.
Kendall Frost (10-13) surrendered six hits and four runs in the loss.
