Jeff Hoffman is already having an amazing season in the majors.
Hoffman signed a three-year deal to be the closer for the Toronto Blue Jays in the offseason. He returned to the team that originally drafted him in 2014. The signing came after the Philadelphia Phillies turned down the chance to sign him after he pitched there two seasons.
He also missed the chance to pitch for the Baltimore Orioles and Atlanta Braves. Both expressed interest but later turned down an offer due to concerns about his pitching arm.
So far, that has not been the case for Hoffman. He went into Saturday’s game with a 2-0 record, 5 saves and a 1.59 ERA over 11.1 innings. He’s given up two earned runs on six hits with 18 strikeouts and a walk.
