East Carolina faces off with UAB in Birmingham starting Thursday

The East Carolina baseball team returns to AAC action with a series at Alabama-Birmingham, which runs Thursday through Saturday, ahead of Easter.

East Carolina treks down to Birmingham this weekend for an American Athletic Conference series with UAB. The teams will play from Thursday through Saturday due to the Easter Holiday.

All three games will stream live through ESPN+ with Curt Bloom and Alan Dunn. Pirate Radio will have updates on its social media sites.

The Pirates (22-16, 7-5 AAC) enter the fifth round of league play tied with Tulane for fourth place in the standings but just a game back of both South Florida and Charlotte for second. The Blazers (19-18, 4-8 AAC) are tied with Wichita State for seventh but just one game ahead of Memphis and Rice as the race to Clearwater and the AAC Tournament heats up.

ECU knocked off UNCW 7-3 in Greenville Tuesday to win the season series and has won two straight entering the Easter Weekend set. Braden Burress logged his second four-hit effort of the campaign, drove in two runs and added a walk for good measure. Austin Irby also contributed a pair of hits and two RBI. Bradley Zayac notched his first collegiate win with 2.2 scoreless innings of work.

The Pirates slot second in the conference in earned run average (4.23) and have struck out 361 batters against 161 walks in 330.0 frames. Burress paces the lineup with a .405 batting average which puts him second in the league. East Carolina is 7-5 in true road games this season, including 4-2 in AAC play.

About UAB
The Blazers enter the weekend after dropping a 5-3 decision at No. 15 Alabama Tuesday. UAB visited Tulane last weekend and dropped two of three to the Green Wave. The Blazers are 10-8 at home in 2025 with series sweeps of South Alabama and North Alabama as well as a midweek victory over then No. 22 Auburn. Todd Clay paces the UAB lineup with a .354 batting average as well as a club-best 34 RBI. The Blazer pitching staff sports a 5.65 ERA with 272 strikeouts and 143 walks in 315.1 innings.

East Carolina leads the all-time series with UAB by a 32-5 count. The Pirates swept the Blazers in Greenville last year and have won 11 straight meetings with UAB.
