Pirates in MLB: Burleson has three hits in Cards’ loss to Red Sox

ECU alum Alec Burleson had his best night of the short season in Friday’s 13-9 loss to the Boston Red Sox.

Burleson was 3-for-4 with a run scored, pushing his batting average to .333. As the team’s designated hitter, he singled in the second inning, singled and scored in the fourth on a homer by teammate Ivan Herrera and singled in the sixth.

Carter Cunningham

Starting at first base, he had a two-run single in the first inning in Vancouver’s 5-4 loss to Tri-City in the season opener. The hit gave the team a brief 2-0 lead. He’s now batting .250 for the season.

Carter Spivey

He began the week pitching in a game for the Columbus Clippers. He was then sent to Double-A Akron but was then called back to Columbus on Friday.

  • Shawn Armstrong, Texas Rangers: Pitched in 5-2 win over Tampa Bay on Friday. No decision, 1.1 innings, 2 runs (earned), 3 hits, 2 strikeouts. Has 6.75 ERA for season.
  • Gavin Williams, Cleveland Guardians: No decision vs. Angels. Started and pitched 3 innings, 4 runs, 2 earned, 5 hits, 5K, 3 walks, solo homer to Mike Trout 
  • Jeff Hoffman, Toronto Blue Jays: Did not pitch Friday vs. Mets
  • Clayton McCullough, Miami Marlins (manager): Marlins lost 10-0 to Braves, who got their first win of the season. Marlins are now 4-4.

Triple-A

  • Carson Whisenhunt, Sacramento RiverCats (San Francisco Giants): Scheduled to pitch Sunday against the Las Vegas Aviators.
  • Zach Agnos, Albuquerque Isotopes (Colorado Rockies): Pitched the ninth inning in a 5-3 loss to Salt Lake. Gave up a run (earned), a hit, walked one and struck out two. His ERA is now 4.50.
  • Carter Spivey, Columbus Clippers (Guardians): Did not pitch vs. Richmond.

Double-A

  • Trey Benton, Akron Rubber Ducks (Guardians): Out for season with injury

Single-A

  • Carter Cunningham Vancouver Canadians (Blue Jays): See above
  • Tyler Bradt, Peoria Chiefs (Cardinals): Postponed due to rain; doubleheader on Saturday
  • Josh Moylan, Hudson Valley Renegades (Yankees): 0-for-2 with two walks in a 3-1 loss to Jersey Shore
  • Josh Grosz, Hudson Valley Renegades (Yankees): Did not pitch Friday vs. Jersey Shore
  • Trey Yesavage Dunedin Blue Jays (Blue Jays): Did not pitch vs. Clearwater
  • Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman, Modesto Nuts (Mariners): Did not pitch in 6-3 win over San Jose.
  • Jacob-Jenkins-Cowart Jupiter Hammerheads (Marlins): Was 1-for-4 with an RBI in 4-0 victory over St. Lucie. He singled in the sixth to drive in a run and give his team a 3-0 lead.
  • Ryan McCrystal Daytona Tortugas (Reds): Did not play in 6-2 loss to Bradenton.
