MLB.com highlights ECU connection between Connor Norby, Clayton McCullough

by | Mar 3, 2025

MLB.com is highlighting something fans of East Carolina already knew about.

Marlins reporter Christina De Nicola wrote “Six unique connections within the Marlins’ roster.” First among them is the ECU alum Connor Norby and Clayton McCullough.

Norby joined the Marlins last season after a trade from the Baltimore Orioles. McCullough became manager of the team ahead of this season.

Norby is the 27th alumni from ECU to make the majors. McCullough had been with the Los Angeles Dodgers as first-base coach before taking the Miami job.

“When this happened and went down, (ECU baseball coach) Cliff (Godwin) and I spoke,” McCullough said. “Connor speaks very highly of him and Cliff as well. So I was able to talk to Cliff a little about his time with Connor. I know they still stay in touch. We’re Pirate alum. But also, Cliff was very instrumental, I believe, in Connor’s formative years there in college, kind of helping shape his mindset.”
