CLEMSON, S.C. – Morgan Johnson and Brooke Masingale both hit home runs as East Carolina run ruled Lafayette, 11-2, in five innings on Sunday morning in the Tiger Invitational at McWhorter Stadium.

The Pirates improved to 11-7 on the young season with the win.

ECU wasted no time in getting the scoring started as Johnson hit a two RBI homer to put the Pirates in front 2-0 and ECU added another run on after a Lafayette error to go into the second inning ahead 3-0.

Kanisha Anderson hit a triple in the bottom of the second as the Pirates started to pull away, scoring six runs, to extend their lead to 9-0.

Lafayette finally scored two runs in the top of the third but the Pirates kept adding to the scoreboard as well as Masingale’s first career home run made it a 10-2 game. Hannah Evans hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to make it 11-2 and ECU forced three of Lafayette’s final four batters into outs to end the game.

Ava Fisher (1-0) picked up her first career win, tossing two strikeouts in two innings of work.
