ECU alum Alec Burleson got a hit for the second straight Spring Training Game during Saturday’s St. Louis Cardinals game.
Burleson, playing as the team designated hitter against the Washington Nationals, hit a deep lineout in his first at-bat before lacing a single in the fourth inning. He later grounded out before being replaced in the lineup in the ninth inning.
He’s now hitting .222 in Spring Training. The Cardinals went on to win, 3-2.
First bump for Agnos
ECU alum Zach Agnos had his first bit of adversity in Spring Training.
Pitching in relief for the Colorado Rockies, he gave up a run on two hits in the fourth inning of the team’s 8-4 loss on Saturday to Arizona. It was the first hit and run he’s given up in Spring Training.
The Diamondbacks already led 4-0 after a three-run first inning when he came on to pitch in the fourth.
Agnos recorded a groundout before giving up a single to Geraldo Perdomo. Agnos got the next batter to ground out before Garrett Hampson dropped a single into shallow right field to drive in a run. Hampson was later caught stealing to end the inning.
Agnos now has a 2.25 ERA in Spring Training.
