The 2024 NFL season didn’t go quite as ECU alum and Arizona Cardinals receiver Zay Jones had hoped.
On Aug. 23, 2024, he was suspended for five games without pay for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. The suspension stemmed from his arrest in a domestic battery case, which charges against him were later dropped.
After his return in Week 5 against the San Francisco 49ers, he saw little playing time. He had one catch for 3 yards against the Dolphins on Oct. 27 and didn’t get another catch until Dec. 8 against Seattle, where he had one catch for 13 yards.
He saw more action in three of the last four games of the season, totaling six catches for 68 yards. The big question once the Cardinals’ season ended was whether Jones’ one-year contract would be it for him or if he would re-sign with the team.
USA Today’s Cardinals writer, Jess Root, believes his time in Arizona may not be up. He wrote in part, “Based on his growing role offensively at the end of last season, he could be a guy the Cardinals re-sign. They liked his ability to play any of the receiver positions, although he usually played ‘X’ when Marvin Harrison Jr. moved inside to the slot.”
