The Toronto Blue Jays have been busy during the offseason.
The team added Max Scherzer as a starting pitcher and signed ECU alum and relief pitcher Jeff Hoffman. Now, as Spring Training approaches, the question is how the team will come together. Also of note is which prospects will join the majors in 2025.
Canada’s SportsNet took a look at several prospects who are ready to make the leap. One question did come up about another ECU alum, Trey Yesavage.
While making the team this season is far-fetched, it’s not impossible. That’s even more true since he could start his minor league stint as high as Double-A.
SportsNet reports, in part, “The team would have to be a late-year contender and tapped out of viable rotation or bullpen options. Yesavage would have to be healthy, effective, and shy of any workload limitations. The club would need to be convinced that he was mentally prepared for the stress of being thrown into a playoff race and that the potential of a bad outcome wouldn’t be disastrous for his development. It’s a far likelier bet that we won’t see Yesavage until 2026 at the earliest.”
