ECU’s Dixon Williams was playing summer league baseball for the Newport Gulls. During Game 3 of the New England Collegiate Baseball League’s championship, he made a remarkable diving catch to save the game for the Gulls, who went on to win.
This week, the Gulls have been posting their top 10 plays of the previous season on their X account. Williams’ play was ranked No. 2 by the organization and was posted on Wednesday.
So we’re anxious to see what’s No. 1, which should be posted on Friday.
Williams went on to be named MVP of the NECBL. He was also the league batting champion, led the Gulls in RBI and runs scored. He also had success defensively, playing second and third base, yielding a .1000 fielding percentage at second and a .952 at third. He had just three errors at third.
