If you follow ECU baseball, you likely know this story.
Trey Yesavage’s rise in just one year from ECU baseball star to a starter in the MLB postseason for the Toronto Blue Jays has been well documented. Last Sunday, he struck out 11 over 5.1 innings against the New York Yankees in his first postseason game, setting all kinds of records and wowing fans … not to mention the Yankees.
Now, he’s on the cusp of pitching in the ALCS against the Seattle Mariners. It hasn’t been announced when he’ll pitch but based on his performance so far this season, we’re certain to see him again.
MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo documents Yesavage’s “I’m built for this” moment in a long-form piece. He covers his time in high school, at ECU and his rise through the minor leagues to the Blue Jays — all in one season.
Mayo writes in part, “Like with any success story, even one that seems as sudden as this one, there’s a large supporting cast and many key decisions that made it possible.”
