ECU alum Jeff Hoffman didn’t pitch against his former team but did get a win against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.
Hoffman, who signed a three-year free-agent deal in the offseason with the Toronto Blue Jays, pitched the fourth inning against the Tigers. He gave up a hit and struck out one to keep his Spring Training ERA at 0.00.
Toronto took the lead and went on to win, 5-0. It was part of a split-squad Saturday for the Blue Jays, who dropped a 5-4 decision to Hoffman’s former team, the Philadelphia Phillies.
