Ryan McCrystal is moving a little bit closer to his goal of reaching the Majors. Literally.
The ECU baseball alum and Daytona Tortugas catcher was promoted to High-A Dayton on Thursday. That means he’s leaving Florida and moving just north of Cincinnati, one step closer to his dream of playing in Major League Baseball with the Reds.
As we wait our second rain delay of the day, let’s give a big congratulations to Ryan McCrystal, who is the second Tortuga in two days to earn a promotion!

He’ll join the team immediately and could play for the Dragons as early as Saturday.
He becomes the second member of Daytona to be promoted to Dayton. On Wednesday, pitcher Kenya Huggins was moved up as he continues his comeback from Tommy John surgery.
McCrystal has been on a hitting tear of late. After hitting just .180 to start the season, he tore it up by going .300 (21 for 70) in May and .364 (24 for 66) in June. He was hitting .319 in July (15 for 47) after missing some time with an injury. He last played on July 22, going 1-for-5 with a double and two RBI in a 6-1 win over St. Lucie.
For the season at Daytona, he hit .296 (69 for 233) with 35 runs, four homers, 14 doubles and 48 RBI.
