C.J. Walker was one of five Pirates in double figures with a career-high 24 points and nine rebounds as East Carolina routed Mount Olive 110-73 on Tuesday evening inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
RJ Felton stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists for the Pirates (3-0), who scored 100 points in a game for the first time in nearly 11 years. Jordan Riley added 15 points and seven rebounds as Cam Hayes and Jayshayne Woodard each scored 11 points.
The Pirates would jump out to an early 16-3 lead over the Trojans behind fast-paced play and breaking the Trojans’ full-court press.
Mount Olive would settle down after the Pirates’ early surge, cutting ECU’s lead to just eight with five minutes remaining. ECU would push their advantage back to double digits after scores from Felton and Walker on three consecutive possessions to force a Trojans’ timeout.
The Pirates would go into the locker room with a 58-40 advantage and open the first eight minutes of the second half with a 23-8 run to push their lead to 82-48 with 12:35 remaining. ECU would maintain a lead of at least 30 points the rest of the way as Grant Smith, Bencao Vungo, Callum Richard and Tybo Bailey got extended minutes.
