Morgan Johnson hit the game-tying home run in the bottom of the fifth and Mary-Kathryn Scott plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth as East Carolina rallied to defeat Memphis, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.

Annie Kate Dalton continued her strong week at the plate for the Pirates (23-16, 9-6 AAC), going 2-for-3. ECU picked up its second sweep this season of a conference opponent marking the second season in a row that the Pirates have swept two conference series in the same year.

ECU scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the fourth after a Tigers error allowed Anna Sawyer to reach home. Memphis would take the lead in the top of the fifth after a sloppy defensive inning from the Pirates allowed three Memphis runs.

The Pirates bounced back quickly as Dalton got on base with a single and Johnson knotted the game with a two-run bomb over the left field wall. Gabby Fowler delivered with a single in the bottom of the sixth and after a sac bunt from Chloe Geijer advanced the runner to second, Scott stepped up with a single to left center to score the go-ahead run.

Kendall Frost reentered the game in the top of the seventh after Memphis got the tying run on base and quickly slammed the door on any hope for the Tigers to tie or take the lead.

Frost picked up her fourth save of the year, tossing four strikeouts while Taylor Apple (10-7) tossed two strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work.
