The Toronto Blue Jays’ new closer slammed the door on the Washington Nationals with a perfect ninth inning of a 5-3 victory. The dramatics began when the Blue Jays (4-2) scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the two-run lead.
Hoffman came in and pitched the top of the ninth. He got Luis Garcia Jr. to line out to right then struck out Paul DeJong swinging before Alex Call popped out to first base to end it.
It was Hoffman’s second save of the season, keeping his ERA at 0.00 in his two appearances this season.
