Pirates in baseball: Alec Burleson gets things started in Cardinals’ win

by | Jul 11, 2025

Alec Burleson was 1-for-4 at the plate with two RBI in the St. Louis Cardinals’ 8-1 win over the Washington Nationals on Thursday.

He produced the Cardinals’ first two runs, grounding out in the first inning to push a run across and singling and driving in a run in the third inning. That gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.

Since hitting .314 on June 21, he has hit a bit of a slump at the plate, going 12-for-60 to drop his average to .289. He’s had a hit in three straight games and even went 3-for-5 on July 5.

The Cardinals are 8-9 since June 21.
