Emma Jackson went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run but East Carolina fell to Boston College, 6-5, in the Pirate Invitational finale on Sunday afternoon at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.

Boston College raced out to a 2-0 lead on a two-run blast over the left field wall but ECU quickly answered on Logan Sutton’s two RBI double to tie the game going into the second inning.

Jackson gave the Pirates a 3-2 edge with her solo homer and the junior outfielder increased ECU’s lead to 4-2 with an RBI double to score Trinity Nichols in the bottom of the fourth.

The Eagles halted the Pirates’ momentum with a two-run double in the top of the fifth to tie the game again and the teams remained locked at 4-4 until Morgan Johnson hit a double to score Kanisha Anderson in the bottom of the sixth.

Boston College had the back-breaking play in the top of the seventh, hitting a two-run homer to go in front 6-5 and the Pirates were unable bring the runner in from third to force extra innings.

Taylor Apple (3-2) picked up the loss in the circle for the Pirates with two earned runs allowed in three innings.
