Keaton Mitchell plays, puts up numbers for Ravens in win over Texans

by | Dec 25, 2024

After several weeks of wondering when ECU alum and running back Keaton Mitchell would play again for the Baltimore Ravens, we got a Christmas miracle on Wednesday.

In their holiday NFL game at the Houston Texans, Mitchell started for the Ravens. He was on the field for the opening kickoff.

Follow his progress during the game here.

10:08, 1st quarter

The Ravens score the first touchdown on a 2-yard run by running back Derrick Henry. Mitchell did not get a carry during that drive.

:36, 1st quarter

On the Ravens’ third offensive series and last play of the first quarter, Mitchell gets a carry for 7 yards on first down. The announcers specifically mention how he hasn’t played for several weeks after returning to the team from injury.

Derrick Henry has 10 of the team’s 13 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown through the first quarter.

14:22, 2nd quarter

The Texans stop the Ravens twice on runs. Henry loses four yards on first down and Mitchell loses six on second down. Mitchell has two carries for one yard (7 yards, -6).

The Ravens lead 10-0.

1:51, 2nd quarter

We did see Mitchell on the sideline celebrating with quarterback Lamar Jackson after Jackson’s touchdown pass to put the Ravens up 17-2.

:42, 2nd quarter

On first down, Jackson throws a short pass to Mitchell, who turns it into a 28-yard gain. Mitchell looked smooth as he dodged around tacklers before being brought down.

Halftime

The Ravens lead 17-2 at the half. Mitchell has two carries for a yard (7 yards, -6) and a catch for 28 yards.

13:22, 3rd quarter

The Ravens now lead 24-2 after Jackson’s 48-yard scamper. Mitchell was not on the field for any of the offensive plays.

5:50, 3rd quarter

Lamar Jackson threw for another touchdown to extend the Ravens’ lead to 31-2. Jackson became the top rushing quarterback in NFL history during that series. Mitchell did not see action on the field but you would think he’ll get some chances now that the game is a blowout.

The Ravens also announced RB Rasheen Ali is out for the rest of the game with a hip injury.

13:42 4th quarter

We’re starting to see Mitchell more on the field. He was the featured back in this series with Henry on the sideline. Mitchell had two carries for no yards, getting a yard on his first run and -1 yards on the next play.

The Ravens lead 31-2 with 11:25 left.

10:24, 4th quarter

Mitchell had four straight carries, though the last one was negated by a penalty. He rushed for 12 yards (7, 4, 1). Henry also saw some action but Mitchell is the main guy now.

On the 13-play series, Mitchell rushed seven times for 19 yards.

Final

Ravens win, 31-2. Mitchell finished with 11 carries for 20 yards, his longest run covering 7 yards. He also had a catch for 28 yards in his most active game of the season.
