ECU alum Gavin Williams looks like he’s more than ready for the 2025 Major League Baseball season to start.
His Spring Training has been lights out for the Cleveland Guardians. He is 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA in three starts over eight innings. He’s struck out 16 and has a WHIP of .88.
Last Sunday, he went 3.2 innings, giving up two hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. He struck out one in the first, struck out all three batters in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth before being lifted.
That’s certainly a step in the right direction after struggling in 2024. He was 3-10 with a 4.86 ERA with 79 strikeouts in 76 innings.
Fan Sided’s AwayBackGone.com site broke down Williams’ performance during Spring Training and especially his turn on the mound last Sunday.
James Mastrucci wrote in part, “Don’t look now, but Gavin Williams looks more than ready for the regular season to begin. The Cleveland Guardians’ starter continues to dazzle during spring training in Goodyear, Arizona, with his dominant performances on the mound taking center stage.”
