Former ECU defensive back Gavin Gibson is staying in-state for the next stop in his college football career.

TarHeelIllistrated reports Gibson will play this fall at the University of North Carolina. He was at Maryland before coming to play at ECU.

Former East Carolina defensive back Gavin Gibson is transferring to North Carolina, he told Tar Heel Illustrated on Monday morning.

The website reports, “Gibson was at UNC on Saturday and Sunday visiting with new Tar Heels Coach Bill Belichick, his son Steve, who is the defensive coordinator, and a few other members of the staff. Their vision on how they would use Gibson was a big selling point to the class of 2021 graduate of Hough High School in Cornelius, NC.”

“Being able to be in a defense where I could use all my versatility and play under Bill,” Gibson told the website on Monday.

Gibson had 52 total tackles, 25 solo, along with three interceptions for the Pirates in 2024.
