ECU’s Winston Wright Jr. named Sporting News Midseason All-American

East Carolina graduate wide receiver Winston Wright Jr. has been selected to the 2024 Sporting News Mid-Season All-American according to an announcement by the publication Friday.

The Savannah, Ga. native leads the Pirates in receptions (25), kick returns (11), kick return yards (355) and all-purpose yards (679), while sharing the lead in receiving touchdowns (2) and ranking third in receiving yards (280).

Wright Jr. currently slots third nationally and second among American Athletic Conference players in kickoff return yards per game, averaging 32.3 yards per attempt. He also owns a league-best 355 total yards in the statistic.

Wright Jr. logged the first Pirate kickoff return touchdown since 2022 early in the fourth quarter of the Charlotte contest, taking the ball 94 yards to the house to provide the game’s final margin.

The Pirates return to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 when they travel to West Point, N.Y. to play No.23 Army at 12 noon (ET) on ESPN2.
