IRVING, Texas – East Carolina Lacrosse’s Emma Magazu has been named the American Athletic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week following her phenomenal debut in Purple and Gold, the league announced Monday. Additionally, goalkeeper Jaime Behar has earned Honorable Mention recognition.

Magazu, a senior transfer by way of New Hampshire, was integral to the Pirates’ defensive efforts in the team’s season opener on Saturday. She recorded four caused turnovers and five ground balls in the game, both team highs. The Newtown, Conn. native also recorded a draw control in the game as the team opened 2025 season on the road with a 12-8 win over the Queens Royals. The victory was the largest margin ever in three meetings between the programs.

For her part, Behar made eight saves and allowed just eight goals in the game for a stout .500 save percentage in the victory. The junior went the distance in goal as she earned her third career win with her fourth most saves ever in a game.

Magazu, Behar and the Pirates will be back in action on the road on Saturday as they take on the Elon Phoenix for a 1 p.m. opening draw.
