East Carolina soccer’s Kylie Alvarez has been tabbed American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The honor, the first of Alvarez’ career, comes after the senior not only helped the Pirates to two clean sheets defensively, but scored her first career goal. That goal ended up being the game winner in Sunday’s contest at UNCW and was well struck off of a feed from Lindsey Aiken, giving the Seahawk keeper no chance. In addition to her offensive output, Alvarez was excellent defensively from her midfield position, stifling her opponents’ offensive chances and helping the team to their third and fourth shutouts of the year.
