AUSTIN, Texas – East Carolina senior outfielder Jack Herring garnered his first All-American honors for the 2026 season, being named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® Third Team according to the organization on Tuesday afternoon.

Herring becomes the first Pirate to receive the Academic All-America honor since Carter Cunningham and Trey Yesavage were both named to the First Team in 2024. This also marks the eighth Pirate under the Cliff Godwin since his tenure started in 2014. Godwin is a two-time Academic All-American from his time at ECU, named to the Third Team in 1999 and the Second Team in 2001.

Herring graduated with a bachelor’s in communications back in May, holding a respectable 3.95 GPA in his time at ECU. In the 2026 season, Herring was named to the American All-Conference Second Team and to the Second Team Atlantic All-Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

The right-fielder led the Pirates in several offensive categories, including slugging percentage (.565), OPS (1.050), RBI (51) and doubles (17). His disciplined approach at the plate also helped him lead the American Conference and rank 13th nationally with 54 walks during the season.

Herring also quietly put together one of the most remarkable streaks in program history. He reached base safely in 66 consecutive games, setting a new East Carolina record. The streak made Herring the first Pirate to hit a bag in at least 60 games consistently.
