NEW ORLEANS – After leading East Carolina to a 31-27 victory over Memphis on Saturday, Katin Houser is one of eight quarterbacks named the Manning Stars of the Week according to an announcement by the Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Houser was also named to the American Conference Weekly Honor Roll for his performance against the Tigers.
College football fans can follow the Manning Award on social media (@ManningAward) to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. When voting closes on Wednesday at 9 a.m. (Central), the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. Houser Game Notes vs. Memphis
Houser completed 23 of 34 passes for 332 yards and one passing score leading the Pirates to a 31-27 win over Memphis … It was the Pirates fourth consecutive win in conference play and fourth league win at home on the season (most since joining The American in 2014) … His 300-plus yard effort was the sixth of his Pirate career … Scored his seventh rushing TD of the season on a one-yard run the third quarter marking the sixth time in the last seven games with a rushing TD … Completed six passes for 15 or more yards pushing his season total 62 passes of at least 15 yards … Guided the Pirates on the game-winning drive with 2:28 remaining against the Tigers where he completed all five pass attempts for 70 yards including a 31-yard score to Payton Mangrum with 1:08 remaining in the contest … It was his third career game-winning drive as the Pirates signal caller with 2:30 or less remaining (others: Tulsa ’24, NC State ’24).
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates’ bowl performances in its balloting. Since the Manning Award started recognizing Stars of the Week in 2011, 607 different quarterbacks from 138 schools have been recognized. Sixty-five players have been honored so far in 2025.
ECU will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 22, when it travels to UTSA for an American Conference match-up Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. (ET) and will be streamed on ESPN+.
