IRVING, Texas – East Carolina women’s basketball’s Amiya Joyner has been named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. It is Joyner’s second Player of the Week nod of the season.

Joyner, the junior out of Farmville, had a fabulous week as she led the Pirates to a 2-0 record in their swing through Virginia at Hampton and Old Dominion. Averaging 21.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per game on the week, the forward kicked things off with an efficient 16-point, 10-rebound, three block outing on a torrid 8-10 clip shooting in the team’s blowout victory against their Lady Pirate foes.

At Old Dominion, it was another MyMy signature outing with 27 points, 17 rebounds and four assists. She not only knocked down the game-tying free throws with 7.2 seconds remaining in regulation, she went on to score teh game-winning basket with 5.9 seconds remaining in regulation on a beautiful spinning scoop shot from the left side of the lane.

It was Joyner’s 11th career 15-rebound game, third in program history behind only Debbie Freeman and Rosie Thompson’s 12. Additionally, it was her seventh 20-point double-double and fifth double-double overall of the season.

The weekly honor is the 11th total of Joyner’s career, three being Player of the Week honors after notching eight Freshman of the Week nods as a rookie.

Joyner and the Pirates will be back in action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. as they host VCU in Minges Coliseum.
