ECU women’s basketball star Amiya Joyner enters transfer portal

by | Apr 10, 2025

Amiya Joyner, who won a state title at Farmville Central and helped the East Carolina women’s program reach the NCAA Tournament in 2023 announced late Wednesday she was entering the transfer portal.

Joyner posted the news on her X account just after 11 p.m., saying in part, “After a lot of prayer and long talks with my family, I’ve decided ot enter the transfer portal. This wasn’t an easy decision, but I believe it’s the right one for my future. I’m thankful for the journey and excited for what’s next.”

Joyner played a big role in the Pirates winning the AAC Tournament on March 10, 2023, knocking off Houston 46-44 in the title game. That win put the Pirates into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since

Joyner had seven points, 15 rebounds and three blocks in that win. The Pirates would lose to Texas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

ECU also became the first team to win the tournament title after not being seeded No. 1. It was their first conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007.

She finished her career at ECU averaging 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds in three seasons. This past season, she averaged 15 points, 9.2 rebounds and shot 48.1% from the field.
