The East Carolina softball team dropped its third straight game on Wednesday evening as the Pirates fell to No. 19/21 Duke, 11-0, in five innings at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.

Kanisha AndersonAnnie Kate DaltonAnna Sawyer and Logan Sutton each recorded a hit but it was a rough night overall for the Pirates (18-14, 5-4 AAC) as the team committed a season-high five errors and gave up a season-high 15 hits.

Duke quickly loaded the bases in the top of the first and the Blue Devils ended up plating four runs before the Pirates had a chance to take their first swing at the plate. Kanisha Anderson was able to get into scoring position in the bottom of the first, but with two outs, ECU was unable to get a run on the board.

The Blue Devils slowly added to their lead over the course of the game while the Pirates struggled to manufacture much offense as ECU’s only other chance to prevent the shutout was in the bottom of the third when the Pirates had the bases loaded with two outs but once again, Duke kept the Pirates from crossing home plate to escape the inning.

Kendall Frost (7-8) gave up 10 hits and four earned runs in the loss.
