Among the 20 people charged Thursday by the FBI in connection with a point shaving and fixing games scheme is one involving a game between Tulane and East Carolina.
Multiple media outlets report federal prosecutors charged the people, some of whom were former college basketball players, in the scheme. CBS News reports the scheme involved nearly 40 players and at least 17 Division I teams, including ECU, in one of 29 games, looking to be “fixed and attempted to fix.” CBS Sports reports 17 former players are listed as defendants, with 15 playing in the 2023-24 or 2024-25 seasons. Some have even played this season.
Investigators said the schools affected by the scheme included ECU, Michigan, Butler, St. John’s, Tulane, McNeese State, Nicollls State, Saint Louis, Duquesne, La Salle, Fordham, Buffalo, Kent State, Ohio, Georgetown and DePaul.

Former Tulane star Kevin Cross is the player mentioned in the scheme involving a game with ECU, according to reporter Jacob Bigelow. In a post to X, a portion of the charges listed Cross looking to take part in a scheme in a game with ECU on Feb. 18, 2024 at Minges Coliseum, where ECU was favored to win the game by 2.5 points. Cross was offered by the fixers $30,000 to do his part, which officials said he agreed. Around $140,000 worth of wagers were placed on ECU covering the full-game spread.
