ECU concludes season series with UNCW on Tuesday

The East Carolina baseball team hosts UNCW on Tuesday in the final game this season of their series.

The game is slated for 6 p.m. between the Pirates (21-16) and Seahawks (18-18). Below is a preview from ECU Sports Information.

East Carolina makes a brief pit stop back at home Tuesday to wrap up the season series with UNCW inside Lewis Field at Clark-LeClair Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Daron Vaught and Mike Mullis will call the game on ESPN+. Pirate Radio will have reports on its social media accounts throughout the game.

The teams split the first two encounters with the Seahawks winning 9-4 in Fayetteville March 18 and the Pirates taking a 10-6 decision in 10 innings at Brooks Field in Wilmington back on April 1 thanks to Alex Bouche’s decisive grand slam in the extra frame.

ECU (21-16) dropped two of three to Charlotte on the road over the weekend while UNCW (18-18) took a pair of games from visiting William & Mary in a Coastal Athletic Association series.

The Pirates are hitting .264 as a team with 51 doubles, two triples and 42 home runs to go along with 174 walks drawn and 43 stolen bases. Freshman outfielder Braden Burress continues to top the lineup with a .383 batting average. Sophomore infielder Colby Wallace leads the club in doubles (nine), home runs (eight) and RBI (31). The East Carolina pitching staff sports a 4.29 earned run average with 352 strikeouts and 159 walks in 321.0 innings of work.

After Tuesday’s affair with the Seahawks, the Pirates are slated to play eight of their next 11 on the road – including AAC series at UAB and Wichita State as well as midweek contests at NC State and Elon.

The Seahawks are 4-8 away from Brooks Field this season with wins over Southern Miss, Campbell and Hofstra (twice). UNCW is hitting a collective .261 with 54 doubles, six triples, 32 home runs, 181 walks drawn and 50 stolen bases. On the mound, the Seahawks have logged a 3.96 ERA and are holding opposing hitters to a .218 batting average while striking out 318 against 135 walks in 322.2 innings.
