ECU alum shares father experience as Winnipeg enters second week of season

by | Jun 20, 2025

Winnipeg celebrated its first victory of the season just before Father’s Day last week.

The offensive line, anchored by East Carolina alum Stanley Bryant, played a big role in the team’s 34-20 win over the British Columbia Lions. In fact, PFF.com has the Blue Bombers’ offensive line third in the CFL going into Saturday’s rematch at the BC Lions.

Also of note is that fellow ECU alum and BC Lions linebacker Jeremy Lewis will miss this game with a foot injury. He also didn’t play last week against the Blue Bombers.

Finally, the Winnipeg Sun did a feature on how fatherhood has impacted the Blue Bombers. Many dads, including Bryant, spoke about what it means to be a father and how the others on the team approach it.

“I was thinking that yesterday, looking around and seeing a lot of guys have kids, a lot of guys have grown, a lot of guys have come and gone. It’s been a good time here…. just having that experience with the team, coming out to the field after practice,” Bryant told reporter Paul Friesen.

Bryant, at age 39, is the oldest father on the team. He credits coach Mike O’Shea with fostering a positive environment for the fathers.

“Getting the right people in the room,” Bryant said. “That’s important.”
